Designed with ‘Fink Furniture’ for ‘Firth Park Community College’ using funds made available from a ‘Creative Partnership Scheme’, This teaching aid as well as others helps further the understanding of translations and fractions in the transitionary period of primary school to secondary school.
Here I was asked to produce a range of concepts for what this teaching aid could be using research gathered by Finbarr Lucas, the proprietor of ‘Fink Furniture’ as well as suggesting possible production methods.
The images show the final product, A mainly ply wood and locally sourced ash structure that features fractions snakes on one side, and a translations tree on the other. The snakes and tree idea came from research gathered from the children at firth park community college, who would ultimately be learning from this teaching aid.
As well as the teaching aid the structure holds 3 storage boxes for all of the additional components to live in and the board its self can be removed allowing more boards to be added if necessary. The structure needed to be portable so Omni-directional wheels were added allowing 360° movement without the initial judder from a traditional caster wheel.
